Agriculture and Forestry
Municipalities in the five regions developed resources to aid forest owners and farmers to take part in the implementation of the WFD and support regional development. Landowners along specific water bodies have been
encouraged to co-operate in so called “water-course groups”. Those
groups are an opportunity for landowners to plan joint action to
improve the water quality. These and other stakeholder groups have been
asked to discuss the impacts of agriculture and forestry on surface and
groundwater bodies, possible objectives and measures, the relation
between WFD and CAP, economic aspects, etc. Farmers and foresters,
together with municipalities and water authorities took part in
workshops, seminars, discussions and round table meetings to exchange
their points of view and experiences and to better understand each
other. Municipal representatives and stakeholders (nature conservationists and others) have been educated in best practice in water management, in agriculture and forestry.
