...to the web site of the ENMaR project!

ENMaR, the European Network of Municipalities and Rivers, was funded by Interreg IIIC from 2005 to 2007. It demonstrated differences, similarities, problems and opportunities in implementing the Water Framework Directive (WFD) at the local level in the European regions involved. The network enabled these regions to share knowledge and good practise.    more...

ENMaR project report is published

The key aim of the Handbook “Water: local planning and management” is to share good practice concerning water management. The Handbook therefore has two audiences. Firstly the main target group of the ENMaR project the municipalities and stakeholders at local level, who can compare their circumstances with other river basins and can learn from what others are doing. Secondly, decision-makers will be able to gain an overall impression of the current situation concerning water management and its related fields. A chapter is given to each of the project’s key themes (spatial planning, tourism, water management, agriculture and forestry) which highlight differences and similarities among the regions. Due to the high importance placed on public participation, a chapter on stakeholder engagement has also been included. Further on, the Handbook contains 60 case studies, selected from good examples of projects on-the-ground in the ENMaR regions.

If you wish to get a paper version of the handbook please contact us info@enmar.org. The handbook is for free, but mailing expanses will be charged.

You will find the download versions (5 languages) under publications and the executive summary here...

ENMaR case studies

A need for practical examples concering water management and its related sectors has emerged from the regional workshops organised by the project partners. Therefore, an essential exercise of the ENMaR project has been to look in the river basins for case studies dealing with water management in its broadest sense.
The case studies are all published in the Handbook, but in addition they will be presented bit by bit in the news section below (2 case studies for each river basin and each core area).
